Rivaling chest-strap accuracy with the improved comfort

 

Wearable sensing technology is based on optical biometric monitoring, unlike the ECG sensing done by chest-strap devices. The Philips sensing platform uses an optical sensor to accurately track blood volume variations and an accelerometer to track body motion. A proprietary algorithm extracts and processes the sensing data, factoring out body motion, pigmentation, and ambient lighting to produce highly accurate results.

“Seeing” the heart rate:

LEDs on the back of the wearable device shine through the skin to blood vessels just below. A photodiode reads the reflected light. Variations are amplified and the signal is digitized.

a separate motion sensor monitors the vigorous movements made during exercise, which would otherwise create misreads.

Philips proprietary algorithms compensate for exercise-related blood surges that would otherwise skew the results.
