I do not get expected results with my Philips Lumea

Published on 27 November 2024

If you are not satisfied with the hair removal results of your Philips Lumea, please follow these guidelines:

  • Check if Philips Lumea is suitable for you
  • Follow the treatment schedule
  • Remove hair before each treatment
  • Use the correct light intensity settings
  • Ensure even treatment coverage
  • Make sure your Lumea is clean
  • Store your Lumea in a dry place

Read on find out more details.

Philips Lumea is not suitable for everyone. Check the skin tone and hair color tables in your user manual (which is also available online) and read the important safety instructions carefully to find out if Lumea is suitable for you.

Unsuitable body hair colors: treatment with Lumea is not effective if you have light blond, grey, red or white hairs as hairs with these colors do not absorb enough light.

Unsuitable skin tones: you cannot use Lumea if you have dark brown to dark skin tones as these skin tones absorb light more easily which could result in pain, skin redness or burns.

Note: hair color and skin tone can vary across your body. While one body area might be unsuitable to treat with Lumea, another area might be suitable due to another skin tone or body hair color.

Lumea treatment consists of an Initial and Touch-up phase.

The Initial treatment phase is 4 treatments in total, one every 2 weeks (14-day intervals). To ensure that all hairs are treated. Treat yourself within 3 days before or after the planned treatment date.

After the Initial phase, perform a treatment every 4 weeks during the Touch-up phase to retain effective hair growth reduction. Treat yourself within 4 days before or after the planned treatment date.

Tip: use the Philips Lumea IPL app to support your treatment routine.

See the FAQ: ‘How often should I use my Philips Lumea?’ for a more detailed explanation.

Wax, shave or epilate before using Lumea. Perform a treatment before new hair is visible on your skin. If you choose to wax, wait 24 hours before you use Lumea.

Make sure that you select the highest setting that still feels comfortable and does not lead to skin reactions within 24 hours.

You can find this setting by doing a skin test. Refer to the user manual or the FAQ “How do I get the best results with Philips Lumea?” to find out more.

To ensure even coverage and prevent missed spots during treatment, make sure the surface of the attachment (the area around the light exit window) overlaps the previous spot to make sure you flash the complete skin area.

Note: treating the same area multiple times does not increase performance.

The correct pattern of flashes with Philips Lumea

Check if your attachment is clean before each treatment. Clean your attachments and the glass of the light exit window after each treatment. Dirty attachments or glass can produce an unpleasant or burning smell and reduce the effectiveness of your Lumea.

Refer to your user manual for cleaning instructions or see the FAQ titled: 'How do I clean my Philips Lumea?'

Store all parts in the original packaging or in the provided bag, pouch or box in a dry, dust-free place.
